‘Il Labirinto. Il Mito di Arianna e il Minotauro’ premiered at Firenze

Dicembre 15, 2021

Il Labirinto. Il mito di Arianna e il Minotauro will have its national premiere at the Teatro di Rifredi, Florence, on 16 December 2021 at 9 pm. Repeated on 17 December.

COB Compagnia Opus Ballet returns to the stage with a surprising new production that retraces the myth of the labyrinth in a space made entirely of mirrors, symbolising a mental and spiritual journey to find oneself.

The new work, directed by Arianna Benedetti, is based on the story by Friedrich Dürrenmatt, in which the characters, through their own reflected images, follow a chaotic journey at a frenetic and gentle pace, encountering the beast, the maiden, torment, fear, love, irony, joy and melancholy. A journey accompanied by Massimo Buffetti’s sweet and lively music, enriched with quotations from Monteverdi, Pergolesi and Oake, which plunges the spectator and the dancers themselves into their own labyrinth. The four protagonists, the Minotaur, Ariadne, Theseus and the Thread, represent different reflections of the same person and thus different aspects of the same person, each with their own peculiarities. The story is told through minimal dynamics, stimulating emotionality, interweaving and individual creativity, giving each character its own character. A not casual relationship with the music that stimulates the sensitivity of the performers with actions and reactions and images of freedom, if not improvisation; a shared dance with particular and multiple nuances of elegant gestures.
