Reflex

Single Track 2024 | Ballet 2019/2014 | Exhibition 2006

Reflex, commissioned in 2006, is a new version presented in a digital version on online platforms. In this version the original cello and trumpet solos by Sun Ah Choi and Dominique Collin are echoed by the flutes and clarinets of Stefano Agostini and Carlo Failli.

The composition explores the theme of water in relation to the pertinent issues of preserving the planet on which we live. The current version, rethought and developed for the recent release by Spring Art Development, October ’24, is mixed by Rob Nigro. The sound synthesis generated by the electronics, as designed by Massimo Buffetti, is ‘crossed’ in its central part by the cello and trumpet solos, enriched by the expressive colours created by the flutes and clarinets in addition to the generated sounds. For this reason, the composition also lends itself to a possible live performance, with the physical crossing of the two soloists, coming from two frontally opposite sides, and the possible presence of flutes and clarinets to complete the quadrilateral, making the physical spatialisation interact with that of the electronic sound.

The composition develops the original nucleus conceived for a commission from the Constant Change Festival in 2006, a nucleus that was later used, for some sections, in the soundtrack realised for the ballet Othello, choreographed by Arianna Benedetti, an Opus Ballet production, to arrive at the realisation of the current version.
